Tachikawa – Showa Kinen Park

Showa Kinen Park (国営昭和記念公園) is a massive national park located in Tachikawa. In this park you can enjoy all kinds of different scenery all year round. There is a beautiful canal with a huge fountain, several ponds, traditional Japanese Gardens, tulips, poppies, Sakura during Spring and rich deep red colors during Autumn. There’re also plenty of things to do! You can rent bicycles, boats or BBQ at the BBQ Garden (reservation is necessary). There is also a Bonzai Tree Exhibition where you can find many different kinds of Bonzai. For kids there is the Children’s Forest; a forest of adventure filled with all kinds attractions. Dogs are welcome as well and there is even a huge Dog walking field, the only place in the park where dogs may be unleashed. There are several Food Stalls, restaurants, coin lockers and enough toilets everywhere. You can also bring your own food and enjoy a picknick, just make sure to take your garbage with you afterwards.

Showa Kinen Park is so huge it’s definitely worth your money. You can spend the whole day in this park and still not see all of it. In December the park has amazing Winter illuminations to enjoy. The quickest way to get there is to take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku (40 minutes) and get of at Tashikawa station which is about 10 minutes walk to one of the entrances of the park.

Entry fee depends on age:
0-6 years:free, 6-14 years: 80 yen, 15-64 years: 410 yen, 65 years and over: 210 yen.
Show Kinen Park is opened daily from 09:30 – 17:00 but might close during special Holidays. Make sure to check their English Website.
