Yokohama – Minato Mirai 21

Yokohama (横浜) is located in the Kanagawa Prefecture and is Japan’s second largest city. You will never get bored in this huge Harbor City. Especially Minato Mirai 21 (みなとみらい21) has a lot to offer. Boat tours, shopping malls, an amusement park and more! Minato Mirai (translated to “Harbor of the Future”), is located in central Yokohama and is a huge, seaside urban area with many interesting attractions and sightseeing spots. The whole area looks modern and futuristic and is even more beautiful during the evenings due to all the lights.

Cosmo World is an amusement park with all kind of attractions. Most popular is the roller coaster and the huge Ferris Wheel. During the evening the whole park will be illuminated which makes it even more charming. Inside the Ferris Wheel you’ll have a stunning view over Yokohama. Park entry is free, attractions are between 300 to 800 yen each. Open from 11:00 – 20:00 (may close later during weekend but earlier during winter), but closed on Tuesday.

If you love shopping, Minato Mirai should definitely be on your “to-visit” List. There are huge shopping malls like World Porters (shops are opened daily from about 10:30 to 21:00) which has six floors filled with the most delicious food, fashion, home accessory stores and more. The Landmark Plaza (most shops are open between 11:00 – 20:00) where you can find a Pokemon Center, Ghibli store and other themed shops. You’ll also find lots of restaurants and fashion shops. Close to the Landmark Plaza you’ll find Queen’s Square (most shops are open between 11:00 – 20:00), a shopping mall filled with well known brand stores and just outside the building you can find a HardRock Cafe.

If you’re looking for more unique, arty stuff you’ll love the Red Brick Warehouses (横浜赤レンガ倉庫 – most shops are open between 09:90 – 19:00). In the first Red Brick building you can enjoy glass craft making, unique potty and brick home accessories and more. This building is also used for theater performances and concerts. In the second Red Brick building you can enjoy about 40 shops deferring from jewelry to home accessories to variety good shops.

There is a lot to see and to do in the Minato Mirai area and lucky most of the interesting spots are fairly close to each other. To get there, you can take the Minato Mirai Line to Minato Mirai Station (two stations from Yokohama Station) or you can take the JR Negishi Line to Sakuragicho Station (one stop from Yokohama Station).

Besides walking you can also take the Akaikutsu Loop Bus from Sakuragicho Station, which goes to the Landmark Plaza, World Porters, the Red Brick Warehouses and other interesting spots. 100 yen a ride. You can also take several boat trips, which makes your traveling even more exciting.
